Preparation Suggestions

 

Traditional Method (Usucha)

  • 1/2 tsp (1g) matcha

  • 2 oz hot water (160–175°F)

  • Bamboo whisk, fork or frother

Steps:

  1. Sift matcha into a bowl to remove clumps.

  2. Add hot water.

  3. Whisk briskly in a zigzag “W” motion until frothy.

  4. Sip and enjoy immediately.

 

Matcha Latte

  • 1/2–1 tsp (1-2g) matcha

  • 2 oz warm water (~170°F)

  • 6–8 oz hot milk (dairy or plant-based)

  • Optional: sweetener (honey, maple syrup, etc.)

Steps:

  1. Sift matcha into a cup or bowl to remove clumps.

  2. Add warm water and whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until frothy and smooth.

  3. Heat your milk (but don’t boil), and froth if desired.

  4. Pour the warm milk over the whisked matcha.

  5. Sweeten to taste, stir, and enjoy!

 

Iced Matcha Latte

  • 1/2–1 tsp (1-2g) matcha

  • 2 oz warm water (not boiling, ~170°F)

  • 6 oz cold milk (dairy or plant-based)

  • Ice

  • Optional: sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or simple syrup)

Steps:

  1. Sift matcha into a small bowl or cup to remove clumps.

  2. Add warm water and whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until smooth and frothy.

  3. Fill a glass with ice.

  4. Pour in cold milk, then top with whisked matcha.

  5. Stir gently to combine.

  6. Sweeten to taste and enjoy!
